Since we are a small foundation and board and wish to be personally connected in some way with each of our grantees, we only consider grant proposals that we have solicited. Solicited grant proposals should include a detailed description of the program design and proposed accomplishments during the grant period. In addition, a statement of the qualifications of personnel and the capabilities of the organization to carry out the proposed budget; a budget detailing all planned expenditures, sources of income; and plans for future fundraising for the project if applicable are necessary. Organizations that have not been invited to submit a proposal may make initial contact with Elizabeth Knight, our Managing Director, by a one-page letter that includes the mission of the organization, the need to be addressed, the intended outcome of the endeavor and the size of the grant requested. Should we decide to consider a grant proposal, we will contact your organization for a more formal grant application.
Grants typically range in size from $100.00 to $10,000.00 and are usually unrestricted. Occasionally they are designated for special projects although the Foundation does consider general operating budget support. Minimal requirements are requested for reporting expenditures and each is considered on its own merits, but subsequent grants may depend on information you supply on prior grants. All reporting must be through written correspondence. The Fleming Family Foundations do not make grants directly to individuals. Annual reporting by the organization is required for all grants.
